Cannot get the screen capture to work on my iphone 5. I have followed the instructions to the’T', but the screen capture is not working. It worked fine on my 4. Any ideas on what might be causing the conflict?

  • Rob says:

when you say the screen capture is not working, do you mean the file was not saved to the Camera Roll on your iPhone 5?
You can try to run the Photos app, delete an unwanted photo from the Camera roll, then try to capture the screen again see if any update.

Not working Siri just pops up and It’s a a bell with a dash trough and no camera sound what do I do

    • Rob says:

When it brings up the Siri instead, it means you have not press the Home button and the lock button at the SAME Time.

The iPhone 5 lock button (on/off button) is at the top right of your iPhone.

To capture screen shot on iPhone 5, you can press down and hold the LOCK button first, then use another hand to press the HOME button.

i am coming from an android and with android you had to leave the two buttons pressed for atleast 2 to 3 seconds before the capture occurred. While trying to hold the buttons i realized it wasnt working. So i tried it again by very quickly pressing the two buttons and letting go right away at the same time and it worked! Hope that helps..

          Now it WORKS!!
          #1. The trick is :
          1. first press and hold the HOME button
          2. then press the iPhone 5 lock button, then release this button
          3. finally release the HOME button.

#2. If the above not work for you, try the other way around:
          1. first press and hold the LOCK button
          2. then press the HOME button, then release this button
          3. finally release the LOCK button.

I tried it on different iOS devices, some works one not the other. Tried the second one, if the first not work well.

I ran into your thread as I was having the same problem with mu iPhone 5. I was doing the same thing…holding it too long for the pic…damn Droid lol
          Thanks for the tip…

        • Ricki Lieberman says:

WOW! The 2 seconds worked. But I still cannot get the IPhone to actually send a picture even tho I hera the whosh/sent sound…

  • Jim says:

This may work on older versions of I-phone, however for the I-phone 5 (pardon the pun), the steps are bass ackwards! You first need to press the lock button on the upper right corner of the phone and while pressed, the home button needs to be pressed! This will activate the camera shutter and you will hear and audible click. the picture will be saved in camera roll! Hope this helps.

They aren’t backwards, you’re just having trouble with timing and pushing them at the same time. I pushed and released both buttons simultaneously and it took the screenshot just fine.

    Great post and informative detail.

  • Robin says:

Ugh, I give up! I have the iPhone 5 and it just turns off when I try this. :o (

    • James says:

It reminds me the riding of a bicycle, you have to keep a balance, left and right.
To capture iPhone screen, if you press the power button for long, you will shut down your iPhone, if you press the home button for long, you will launch the Siri app. You need to quickly press both of the home and power/lock button at the same time and let go right away.

It is not difficult, practice more and you will see.

  • icyice says:

yaay!! it works fine on my iphone5… :) thanks

  • Paul says:

On one of my Iphone 5 this works perfectly, on another I have tried all combinations pushing the two buttons – and no photo. Could the function be disabled?

  • Rick says:

My worked great with my iphone3 but always have issues doing it on the iphone5. Either Siri/voice control opens, my phone shuts down, or it just backs out of the app I’m using. It works but off and on, plus having an otter box makes it even more difficult

    • Joe says:

If you hold the home button too long, you will open Siri/Voice control, if you hold the lock/power button too long, you will shut down the phone.
so i suggest you to press the two buttons at the same time and let them go a bit quicker.
You may need several more practise, trials to see how it works on iPhone 5

  • Paul says:

Thanks Joe and Rick for your comments. Unfortunately I still have no solution – one Iphone 5 [my private one] works just fine but not the other [my business phone]. Anyone know if there are settings which disable the screen shot function?

  • Natasha-Jade says:

I actually asked Siri how to do it because I did it by accident this morning… She found this article on Google for me – thanks guys! Works like a charm

Absolutely no luck. I\’ve done it both ways and the phone shut off every single time. I\’ve tried one or the other, AND at the same time. Phone shuts off, or restarts everytime. Problem with phone??

  • Sean says:

It’s been restricted by a security profile on your phone. Have a look under Settings…General…Profiles
